Internet (and ping)
Speed / bandwidth matter
- Casual play can get away with lower internet speeds but competitive play, and especially tournament play, require at least medium to high internet speeds, as offered in your area.
- Bandwidth of at least 50 Mbps is recommended, while many of the top players are on speeds of 100 Mbps, 500 Mbps, 1 Gbps or higher (where available).
Ping
- Ping is a measure of communication latency between two networks or between two devices on a network. Said simply, it is the time delay between your system and the gaming server for exchanging messages regarding what is happening in the game and your actions being taken. Higher ping means more delay and less alignment / accuracy in user awareness and inputs, while lower ping means that what you see and the actions you are taking are happening closer to real-time.
- Remaining competitive at the higher levels or ranks of game-play will be difficult with Ping at levels over 30ms.
- Zero ping is the goal, but this may not be achievable depending on your system, the server you are connecting to, your distance from the server, your internet provider, and your distance from your internet provider hub.
