playing Fortnite on PC vs Console - pros and cons

PC vs Console Limitations

PCs and consoles are not created equal…nor is every console equal. Here are just a few of the high level limitations associated with each:

  • Nintendo Switch
  • max limit of 30 FPS if your display can handle it, less if further constrained by your display.
  • Can’t play in PC-only tournaments.
  • PS4
  • max limit of 60 FPS if your display can handle it, less if further constrained by your display.
  • Can’t play in PC-only tournaments.
  • PS5
  • max limit of 120 FPS if your display can handle it, less if further constrained by your display.
  • Can’t play in PC-only tournaments.
  • XBox X/S
  • max limit of 120 FPS if your display can handle it, less if further constrained by your display.
  • Can’t play in PC-only tournaments.

There is very little to “turn off” as it pertains to background processes within a console, as it’s already designed to be prioritized for gaming. However, you can avoid running other applications in parallel, such as YouTube, streaming applications, etc.

  • PC
  • FPS limit is constrained by your PC hardware and display. Many modern PC gamers are running dedicated GPUs that allow well beyond 120 FPS.
  • In a PC, there are countless things that could be running in parallel to your gaming than may need to be turned off during your direct gaming experience to dedicate more of the processing power, memory, graphics, etc. to your gaming.
  • With a PC, you can’t play in console-dedicated tournaments (example: PlayStation Cups).
