Connection: Ethernet vs Wifi

• Where possible, use an ethernet (hard-wired) connection instead of wifi. This will minimize the delay associated with transmission between your device and your internet provider interface.

• The type of ethernet cable you use will have speed/bandwidth limitations as well. Be sure to know if you are using Cat5, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat8, etc to understand the limitations of your wiring. There is no real value (beyond future proofing) in having a cable that is faster than the slowest element of your system, so don’t think that moving from Cat6a to Cat8 will necessarily result in any improvements to your speed if something else in the path is slower. 

• Try to match your system in a way that makes sense to balance performance and expense, for now and for going forward as you may upgrade elements.
