Team Roles / Dynamics
IGL (In-Game Leader)
- The IGL is responsible for leading the team in alignment with a specific strategy in a collaborative way. This role is providing the orders and direction to all other roles within the team. This role should understand the strengths and weaknesses of all the team members (including themself) and how to best utilize the strengths of each player while minimizing the impact of the weaknesses of each player. The IGL may also be another role in unison, such as a fragger or support, etc. This player should understand different strategies. In order to maximize ability in this role, this player should spend time watching playback of prior tournaments and see what works and doesn’t work in different situations, at professional levels of gameplay.
Fragger
- The fragger (or primary fragger) is typically the most skilled fighter on the team. This person still takes strategic direction from the IGL regarding when to engage vs run or hide, when and how to rotate, etc., but this player is expected to have a high percentage of winning their 1v1s and at least doing major damage if not also winning in 1v’2-or-more’ scenarios.
Fragger 2/3/4
- These are backup fraggers for the primary fragger, similar to a support role, but may have to split off to fight a different person while the primary fragger is tied up in a fight or potentially awaiting a rez or a reboot.
Support
- The main function of this role is to support the fragger in his fights. This role may be a distraction to take fire from an opponent or to help spray someone who is boxed up. This person is never fighting a person on his or her own.
Medic
- The main job of the medic is to carry as many heals (med kits, shield, fish, etc) as possible to help the rest of the team. To leave room to focus on heals, the medic may only carry an auto shotgun and an SMG for offensive actions.
When playing solo, the individual has to find balance in all of these roles.
When playing duos or trios, each player will have to take on some combined balance of these roles.
When playing squads, it is easier and makes more sense to dedicate such roles and the related loot.
