Surge Tower
- Surge bases/towers are a relatively standard structure built to gain height for visibility, protect against easily being chopped, enable a simple peek angle (downward/outward) in 360 degrees (around you), and ideally result in ability to deal some easy damage to opponents from a distance while providing some protection. The main purpose of a surge tower is to create a position to deal surge damage, to stay above the surge damage threshold (see our module on surge damage for more).
- To build a surge base tower, place four walls (around you) and a stair, then jump and repeat until you get to the height you want. Be aware of how many mats you have and make sure you're not going to run out in the process. When you reach the desired height, place cones in the center (over your stair) and around the top edge of the walls, then edit all the surrounding cones into ramps, ramping up away from the wall, with the corner pieces edited into corner ramps, to form a shape like a funnel.
- You can then walk around the top surface of the tower and scope out other players and get shots off from behind these peeks.
- Be aware if someone is trying to chop your tower and be prepared to try to avoid fall damage (either exit early, jump and catch a landing build, use a Flowberry Fizz or shockwave, etc).
- If you're not playing solo, you can have one person place the initial build elements (ex. cones) and have another following behind to edit them into the necessary element (ex. cones to ramps). This will get the structure in place and ready to use sooner.
