Character Skin Selection
While there are more skins than we can count, and more coming all the time, your selection of which skin you play in may have more impact than you realize.
Super rare or old-school skins can show that you’re an OG and this may create some level of anxiety in your opponents. A “sweaty” skin just may make your opponent think twice about pushing into a fight with you, may make them second guess their own ability, and just may give you an upper hand. Experienced players are eyeing you up in the pre-game lobby based on your skin.
To the contrary, while you may absolutely love the skin you’ve chosen, you may be sending the opposite message as above. You may be unknowingly signaling to your opponent that you are an easy target, giving them the confidence to not only push you, but to keep chasing until they’ve sealed the kill.
Beyond social impression and general good vs bad taste, the skin you choose can have a very real impact on your performance.
- Some skins have more animation and other elements to render in motion continually which can create delay, while other skins are more simple and have “zero-delay” associated with their rendering of motion.
- Some skins are larger and stand out more, due to size or coloring, while other skins are smaller and naturally blend into the environment better. Ever hear about the concept of red cars being pulled over by police more often? True or not for red cars, the concept definitely applies here, as some skins just catch the human eye more than others and are easier to target accordingly.
So we generally recommend avoiding skins with a lot of animated features, like the following examples:
We also recommend avoiding skins that are large and have really vibrant colors that stand out against most of the natural backdrop of the map, like these:
Instead, we recommend the smaller and less colorful skins, with no animation, like the following examples:
